FYI: Preventive Visits and Additional Medical Concerns
Many insurance companies cover preventive care services without copays or deductibles. Preventive care services may include:
* Annual preventive visits
* Routine vaccinations
* Recommended health screenings (such as cancer screenings)
* Screening for medical conditions such as high cholesterol and diabetes
* Appropriate preventive laboratory testing
Please be aware that insurance companies do not consider all services provided during a preventive visit to be preventive care.
The following services are generally considered separate from a preventive visit and may be billed separately based on your insurance coverage:
* Medication refills
* Monitoring or management of chronic medical conditions
* Evaluation of new symptoms or concerns
* Changes to medications or treatment plans
* Additional medical decision-making related to ongoing or new health concerns
If you choose to address additional medical concerns during your preventive visit, your insurance company may apply copays, deductibles, or coinsurance depending on your individual plan benefits.
